In what may not be the most eye popping move of the offseason, Tyus Jones and the Suns is an absolute match made in heaven, and could end up being one of the most impactful signings of the offseason. Both sides will benefit greatly from the signing, as the Suns diagnosed their weaknesses, and came up with a solution with the limited money that they had, and Tyus lands himself in a spot that will give him the opportunity to be a starter once again.
As one of the best pure playmakers in the league currently, Tyus Jones is the absolute perfect fit for a Suns team whose weakness was not having a solidified playmaker to run the offense. Last season, we saw Phoenix attempt to have Booker or Beal man the point guard position. They didn't do a bad job, but it definitely took away from their scoring share. Beal's FGA per game dropped to the 3rd lowest mark of his career, while Booker took the least amount of shots per contest in his career since 2020-21.
When you have a team with three proven scorers, someone is going to have to take the backseat. The Suns last year had a stint where Bookers assist numbers were up, but it was taking away from pivotal scoring that they NEEDED. Adding Tyus lets their three stars go back to their original pure scorer mindset.
Last season, Tyus Jones yielded the highest AST/TO ratio in the whole league, which is a list he frequently finds himself towards the top of at the end of each season. Allowing KD, Booker and Beal to play off the ball more and taking a lot of the ball handling pressure off them will change the whole dynamic of the team.
The Suns look like they have themselves a contender, and serious threat to the West on paper, but it all depends if their stars can stay healthy. Beal and Durant both have missed over 30% of games over the last four seasons, so the only thing holding this Suns team back from a championship is the uncertainty of health.
